Description: The panelists will examine the State’s recent and proposed efforts to address barriers to housing access through two complementary approaches: increasing housing supply through zoning reform that removes legal barriers to building housing and expanding civil rights protections governing access to housing and housing-related credit. Discussion will cover how Governor Pritzker’s BUILD Plan/HB 5626, the IHRA's existing disparate-impact protections for real estate transactions (P.A. 103-859), and the recently enacted Civil Rights Safeguard Act (SB 3777/P.A. 104-744) fit together, as well as the practical implications of these initiatives for Illinois lawyers.
