The SAG-AFTRA Strike: How Did It Happen and Where Do We Go From Here?
The CBA’s Media and Entertainment Law Committee welcomes Sarah Fowler, the lead attorney who handled the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, which was the third in the union’s history. Sarah will discuss the reasons that a stunning 97% of members of SAG-AFTRA voted to authorize a strike which stemmed from the many changes in how films and television programs are produced and distributed. Now that the strike has resolved, Sarah will also share her thoughts on some of the main “wins” for the union, as collectively bargained with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) including protection from the threat of AI; streaming participation bonus; and wages and benefits. Lastly, Sarah will also provide insights into career paths in entertainment law/labor law.
