The Nervous System and Stress: Takeaways for Lawyers (11/16/23)

The nervous system plays a central role in responding to stress and trauma. Prolonged exposure to stress or trauma can have a detrimental impact on your nervous system’s ability to regulate and appropriately respond to everyday events. Lawyers face high levels of stress on a daily basis and the profession comes with a greater risk for exposure to trauma. In this seminar, we’ll discuss how these facets of the profession can impact your nervous system and what you can do to help mitigate this impact. We’ll discuss several key theories and concepts that can deepen your understanding of your body’s response to stress and trauma, and we’ll cover techniques and coping mechanisms to help you regulate your nervous system.
