Life Settlements and Life Insurance Valuation Solutions for Estate and Tax Professionals

Life insurance is a foundational planning tool in estate, tax, and business succession matters, yet existing policies are frequently overlooked as client circumstances change. Like other property, life insurance assets can be independently valued to support fiduciaries who advise individuals, families, and business owners. 

This program uses a moderated, interview-style discussion to examine the legal and planning implications of life insurance valuation, longevity risk, and secondary market considerations. Attendees will gain insight into how fair market value analysis and life settlement best practices can support informed planning recommendations, enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, and help mitigate liability and reputational risk. The discussion focuses on issue identification, documentation considerations, and interdisciplinary coordination, rather than product selection or implementation. 

Attorneys will learn the strategic importance of identifying and valuing existing life insurance assets in estate and business succession planning, how and when those policies may be monetized to support evolving client objectives, and the role independent valuation and best practices play in mitigating liability and reputational risk.

Jamie L. Mendelsohn, Executive Vice President, Ashar Group 

As Executive Vice President, Jamie is the go-to resource for helping advanced planners and fiduciaries integrate the life settlement solution into their comprehensive planning process. She spends much of her time educating the financial services community at conferences, estate planning councils, and wealth management firms nationwide.  

Jamie earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is a proud member of Women in Insurance and Financial Services. Jamie dedicates much of her time and energy to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, where she serves on the board mentoring patients and families. She lives in Central Florida and enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, and traveling.
