Legal Strategies for Addressing Mental Health and Substance Abuse Issues in Practice and at Work

This is a hybrid event with an in-person and a webinar option. The in-person program will be followed by a networking reception where the mixologists from Ritual, America’s #1 non-alcoholic spirit company, will share tips for mixing up tasty non-alcoholic cocktails. On Mental Health Action Day 2024, join the CBA’s Labor and Employment and Continuing Legal Education Committees for a joint seminar focused on legal strategies for addressing mental health and substance abuse issues in legal practice and at work. 

2pm-3pm: Practitioner’s Guide to the Nuances of FMLA and ADA Legal Issues
The first hour of the seminar will focus on navigating employee rights, employer obligations, and legal considerations surrounding mental health and disability accommodations under these two federal laws.

3pm-4pm: Practitioner’s Guide on the Intersection of Mental Health, Disability, and Employee Benefit Programs 
The second hour of the seminar will focus the complex landscape of employee benefit programs, including health insurance, disability insurance, and leave policies, as well as strategies for effectively advocating for clients facing mental health challenges or disability-related discrimination in the workplace.
