Labor Arbitration: Basics and Best Practices from Experienced Practitioners
This is a hybrid event with an in-person and a webinar option. Please select the appropriate button when registering if you plan to attend in-person. Event will take place at the Chicago Bar Association, 321 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago, IL 60604. Networking reception following seminar sponsored by Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith.
Labor arbitration is unique and distinct from commercial or employment arbitration. When a union and employer dispute the language contained in their collective bargaining agreement and can't reach resolution on their own, labor arbitrators faithfully interpret the language to render fair decisions for the unions and employers that select them through a mutually agreed-upon process.
This seminar will cover the process of labor arbitration in the context of both discipline and discharge ("just cause") cases and contract interpretation cases. Presenters will discuss common issues that come up in labor arbitration and best practices from the perspective of each side, as well as how arbitrators frequently handle them.
Speakers:
Sam Hensel, Associate, Allison, Slutsky & Kennedy, P.C.
Cary Morgen, Labor Arbitration & Mediation Services, LLC
Kalima Swain, Senior Attorney, Labor & Employment Law, Chicago Transit Authority
Stephen L. Sitley, Partner, Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith (Moderator)
