Judicial Insights with Justice Michael B. Hyman (1/21/25)

The Judicial Insights series strives to provide lawyers with the unique opportunity to hear from a member of the bench in an intimate setting. This installment of the program will feature First District Appellate Justice Michael B. Hyman. Justice Hyman has been a member of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, since 2013. He graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and Law School. Justice Hyman has held several leadership positions, including former president of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Judges Association, and the Decalogue Society of Lawyers. Justice Mary Ann McMorrow appointed him to the Cook County Circuit Court in 2006. He was elected to that court in 2008, appointed to the Appellate Court in 2013, and elected to the Appellate Court in 2020. In addition, Justice Hyman has served as chair of the Illinois Supreme Court Equal Justice Committee and the ABA Coalition on Racial and Ethnic Justice as well as numerous bar committees. For about 30 years, he has been the editor-in-chief of the CBA Record and writes a column for the CBA Record and a quarterly column on legal writing for the Illinois Bar Journal. He also is a past president of Scribes, the national association of legal writers.
