Seriously, Lighten Up: How Humor and Play Make Better Lawyers

The practice of law is highly demanding, requiring intellectual acuity, rigor, hard work, and composure under pressure. Research has long shown that humor and play strengthen mental well-being, sharpen learning, and support professional growth, all of which are critical to meeting the demands of legal practice and advancing in the profession. Lawyers and coaches Karen Morris and Kathy Morris will show how humor and play help defuse tension, lighten the mood in difficult conversations with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, and others, ease the isolation and stress that contribute to attorney burnout, and serve as an effective tool in career development and job searches. The session offers practical guidance on bringing more humor and play into your professional life in ways that support your well-being as a lawyer and civility in the legal profession.
