Concussion & Traumatic Brain Injury Cases: What Attorneys Need to Know

Concussion and traumatic brain injury (TBI) cases can present unique challenges for attorneys. Symptoms may be subtle, subjective, and difficult to distinguish from conditions or circumstances unrelated to the injury. Understanding the medical evidence is critical to evaluating the strength of a claim, assessing damages, and effectively presenting or defending a case.

This presentation will provide a practical, evidence-based framework for evaluating concussion and TBI cases. William T. Gibbs, Co-Managing Partner at Corboy & Demetrio and Dr. Elizabeth M. Pieroth, board-certified Clinical Neuropsychologist and the Director of the Concussion Program at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, will discuss how attorneys can determine whether a concussion diagnosis is well supported, whether the treatment provided is appropriate, and how to distinguish symptoms that are reasonably attributable to concussion from those more likely explained by other medical, psychological, or situational factors.

The presenters will translate the medical science into practical guidance for attorneys, offering insight into the questions they should be asking, the evidence they should be evaluating, and the issues they should consider when assessing concussion and TBI claims.
