Centering Racial Justice in Legal Aid (3/14/24)

This is a hybrid event with an in-person and a webinar option. Please select the appropriate button when registering if you plan to attend in-person. Event will take place at the Chicago Bar Association, 321 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago, IL 60604.

This seminar will focus on why race should be a central consideration to administering legal aid. This will include a discussion of the historical context of segregations of communities in Chicago that have led to a concentration of poverty. It will also provide an update on the Illinois Legal Aid Racial Justice & Diversity Collaborative, which works to advance racial justice goals in legal aid groups’ work and organizational development. Lastly, it will include a presentation by Carla Kupe of CZL, P.C. on how to implement long-term sustainable change focused on restoring community, equity, inclusion, and transformation.
