  • Growing Use of ADR in Cannabis Disputes (IL MCLE Credit for Live Webcast Only)

TOPIC: Growing Use of ADR in Cannabis Disputes

The cannabis industry is a challenging field for both its operators and their legal counsel. The legalization of marijuana is so new, some of the lawyers don’t even fully understand the nuances of their own cases as regulations and interpretations change quickly. In Illinois specifically, cannabis related legislation focused on social equity has created opportunities for new business owners and new legal needs. Therefore, speed may matter more in cannabis cases for many reasons, not just because many disputes center around living plants, not just money. Therefore, justice delayed in a cannabis matter, may be justice denied faster than in other industries.

We will explore why cannabis-related disputes are better suited for ADR than traditional courts. Our discussion will also focus on the importance of including ADR provisions in cannabis-related contracts and issues to consider when drafting an ADR clause.
