The Personality Science of Lawyer Mistakes: Understanding and Overcoming our Counter-Productive Fear of Making Mistakes (10/07/2021)

Do you know about “the lawyer brain”?  Do you know that our mental make-up can make us less successful? The CBA’s featured career counselor Kathy Morris will introduce you to and interview special guest Dr. Larry Richard, a former practicing lawyer with a Ph.D. in psychology, to address how lawyers, law students, and legal workplace leaders can recognize the reasons for our ingrained insecurity about erring and provide ways to disrupt our shared traits to enable better careers and more effective client service.

Join in this one-hour Zoom session, bring your questions, and be enlightened about why our minds matter when it comes to making and dealing with mistakes.

 Faculty Bios:

Dr. Larry Richards hails from Philadelphia. He is the founder and principal consultant of LawyerBrain LLC.  A graduate of Syracuse University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Larry was a trial attorney for ten years before earning a Ph.D. in Psychology from Temple University. First a partner with Altman Weil, then  head of the Leadership & OD Practice at Hildebrandt International, in 2011 he established LawyerBrain, www.lawyerbrain.com, to focus on improving lawyer performance through personality science on matters including resilience, change management, leadership, and talent issues.

Kathy Morris is the featured legal career counselor for the CBA Career Advancement Program, www.chicagobar.org/CAP, for which she creates, moderates, and speaks at programs and provides the popular speed counseling sessions. She graduated from the University of Michigan and got her JD at Northeastern University School of Law in Boston.  After a decade practicing criminal law in Honolulu and Chicago, then heading career services and teaching at Northwestern Law School, in 1988 Kathy founded Under Advisement, Ltd., www.underadvisement.com, to advise on lawyer job search and career enhancement.  She was also an early entrant in the lawyer training field, serving as a founding Board Member of the Professional Development Consortium (PDC) and working in law firm C-Suites.
