Sexual Violence & Race, a Historical & Societal Perspective of Race-Based Sexual Violence (12/17/20)

Sexual Violence and Race, a Historical and Societal Perspective of Race-Based Sexual Violence and its Impacts on Civil Litigation

Sexual violence prevention educators from Resilience, one of Chicago’s leading, largest-serving, sexual violence survivor agencies, will discuss the intersection of gender-based violence and race-based violence in the legal system. While reviewing several recent cases where clients were discriminated in judgement both based on their gender and race, attendees will explore how they can strengthen their legal defense with an understanding of such intersections. Further, attendees will have an opportunity to hear from attorney, Bhavani Raveendran, on experiences in civil litigation that reflect the history and intersection of race and sexual violence.
