Infrastructure Funds-Priorities for Illinois: A Conversation with Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch (05/06/22)

The Chicago Bar Association welcomes Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives Emanuel "Chris" Welch as our next speaker in the Civics Committee Matters that Matter series. Speaker Welch will join us for a virtual event on May 6 to discuss the appropriation of Infrastructure funds and how these funds will affect education, healthcare, and access to justice.  Speaker Welch will share insights on how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal funds have the potential to modernize our infrastructure and deliver economic, environmental, and social benefits to all Illinois residents.

Speaker Welch has served as a State Representative in the Illinois General Assembly since January 2013. In January 2021, he became the first black lawmaker to hold the position of Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives. Prior to becoming Speaker, he served as Chair of the House Executive Committee. Speaker Welch is a partner in the local government law firm Ancel Glink.

The Matters That Matter series provides a forum where legal, business, civic, philanthropic, education, charitable, government, community, political and professional leaders can speak and present ideas and issues for discussion, debate and thought to civic-minded individuals about current topics and noteworthy issues of the day. All of Chicago's legal and business community are invited to attend this important discussion.

This program will be moderated by John Sciaccotta, 2021-2022 CBA Board Treasurer & Chair of the Civic Committee.
