Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (12/3/20)

TOPIC: Debunking the Myth that Arbitration is More Expen$ive than Litigation

SPEAKER(S)/ORGANIZATION:  Svetlana Gitman., Vice President, American Arbitration Association

James Ferguson, Partner, Mayer Brown

Jim Reiman, Reiman ADR

Bill McGrath, Davis McGrath LLC

DESCRIPTION: One of the biggest misconceptions about arbitration is that arbitration is more expensive than litigation. While arbitration can be expensive, most of the added costs in arbitration result from parties adding litigation-like procedures that result in a time-consuming process. This program will discuss how administrative bodies like the American Arbitration Association have designed various solutions for keeping costs down and arbitrators’ experience with such cost-saving options. The speakers will also provide tips for how arbitrators, parties, and counsel can help decrease arbitration costs and achieve a fair, fast, and efficient resolution of disputes.
